Out of Justice Emerges Peace:  It Is About Us and Them

(Do You Want to Cast Your Vote on a Sound Bite?)

On four Sunday evenings beginning September 19 and concluding on October 10 the Church and Society Commission will be hosting a discussion on 4 topics vital to making wise, informed decisions in the November election.  Each session will begin at 7:00pm and conclude by 8:30p.m.

The 4 topics will be:

  • The Environment (global warming, energy resources, and new technologies);
  • Immigration (What are the demographics now as compared to 20 years ago? How do we prepare for the next 10 years? What are some responsible solutions to the various issues involved with immigration?;
  • The Economy (How do wealth and poverty responsibly relate to one another? What is necessary to resolve the dire economic circumstances of our state and federal governments?); and
  • Positions of The United Methodist Church relative to these 3 issues (References:  The Book of Discipline and The Book of Resolutions).

John Freese and Howard Daughenbaugh will be the coordinators of this event and will conduct session 4.  Guest resource persons will lead the discussion on the other topics.

More information will be available at a later date.
