Youth Mission Opportunities
Junior High Jr. High Mission Trip Students who have just completed grade 6-8 have a fun and meaningful opportunity this summer. Our mission trip this summer will be in Saint Louis July 15-20. Sr. High Mission Trip Students who have completed grade 8-12 can choose to travel with our youth group to West Memphis, AR for a mission experience that will include everything from working with children (through VBS, for instance) to physical labor (like repairing a roof). That trip will be June 22-30. Interested? You’ll notice that those students who just completed 8th grade have a choice of which trip they would like to take part. Students and their parents (or guardians) have two opportunities to get informational packets and learn more about the trips. We will discuss both trips and have information available at the Youth Leadership Meeting on January 30 (6pm), for those who also wish to help us plan other youth activities (that meeting is open to all), and there will be a second opportunity on Monday, February 4 at 6:30pm in the youth lounge to receive packets and learn more. If you cannot attend either of these meetings or have further questions, please contact Rev. Scott Carnes (cell: 309-533-5433 or scarnes(at)normalfirst.org) |
Youth Sunday School
Junior High Sunday School - Course materials focus on faith-based solutions to issues relevant to the everyday lives of pre-teens. Senior High Sunday School - Christian videos on real-life themes provide the foundation for facilitated discussions that are sometimes funny, and often heart-felt. Teens explore related bible passages and learn that the wisdom and truths of the ancient texts still speak to them today. |
Confirmation
Pastors and members of the youth ministries staff lead weekly faith formation classes throughout the spring for youth in Grades 8 and up. At the end of the semester, the students are offered the opportunity to make their own commitment as members of the church to accept the costs and joys of Christian discipleship. |
Youth Activities
Junior and Senior High fellowship groups encourage our youth to engage the world, grow spiritually, and develop strong friendships with weekly meetings, mission trips, retreats, and other special events. Wednesday Night Small Groups We meet on Wednesday nights from 6-8pm for Small Groups. Our 6th-12th grade students are divided into four groups:
These groups will be led by our amazing youth advisors who will rotate through the groups every 6 weeks or so. These groups will engage in bible study, topical series, and discussions relevant to their age and gender. These groups are an opportunity for students to connect with one another and adults who want to pour into their lives. For more details about specific topics, or series', or how to get involved with these small groups, check out the Normal First UMC Youth fan page on Facebook, or contact Mallory. |
